Softball sweeps Rams

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany softball team woke up Thursday knowing they were scheduled to host North Central for a doubleheader. Late in the morning, they got word that the games would be postponed due to an unplayable playing surface at Bethany. Early in the afternoon, it was announced the games were back on, only across town at Mankato East High School. The Vikings were glad to get the games in as they easily defeated North Central 12-4 and 15-2.

Bethany led 4-3 after three innings in the first game before they started to break it open in the fourth. Rebecca Ludewig knocked in a pair with a single to left. Three batters later, she would score the third run of the inning when Allison Norton singled to right.

The Vikings scored four more times in the fifth and the frame started with a Gena Chester lead-off home run to left, her second of the season. After getting an unearned run, Norton delivered again bringing home two with another single to right to make it 11-4 after five. Bethany closed out the game in the sixth with an unearned run to make the final 12-4.

Chester and Nicole Starkson each had three hits, Ludewig drove in four runs while Norton brought in three.

Bethany took advantage of timely hitting and North Central wildness to put up two big early innings en route to a 15-2, five inning win in game two. BLC scored six times in the first and four more times in the second.

Amanna Berthusen reached base on all four her plate appearances and scored each time. She doubled to left in the first what plated a pair. Norton was big again in the nightcap going 3-for-4 with two more RBIs. Chester and Aimie Wiechmann also had two RBIs.

Bethany (8-20, 7-6 in UMAC) has now won four straight and are scheduled to host Northwestern on Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
