Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany softball team played in their home finale Saturday as five players played in front of the home fans for the final time.
The Vikings dropped both games of the doubleheader to Minnesota-Morris 11-1 and 4-1 and are scheduled to close out the season Sunday with a doubleheader at Northland. With the losses, Bethany is now eliminated from UMAC postseason contention.
The second game was scoreless through three before Bethany got on the board in the fourth.
Aimie Wiechmann singled to lead off the frame and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Two batters later,
Amanna Berthusen singled to move Wiechmann to third.
Angela Timm followed with an RBI single to center to score Wiechmann and BLC led 1-0.
Shannon Heitz pitched well on the mound holding the Cougars scoreless through four. Morris tied the game in the fifth and scored three in the sixth to secure the win.
Berthusen, Heitz,
Gena Chester, Nicole Starkson, and
Rebecca Ludewig played in their final home games of their careers. All five players earned some sort of UMAC recognition and awards and played key roles in giving Bethany its first NCAA tournament in any sport in 2013.
