Box Score 2 ASHLAND, Wis. - The Bethany softball team ended its 2014 season Sunday, but they didn't go out quietly; they erupted for 16 runs in the second game of a doubleheader to earn a split with Northland.
After losing the first game in extra innings, the Vikings scored early and often in game two scoring 11 runs in the first innings.
Rebecca Ludewig knocked in six runs by herself. She brought in the game's first two with a single that scored
Gena Chester and
Aimie Wiechmann. Later in the frame, she belted a grand slam that made the score 11-0. Ludewig ends the season leading the team in all of the triple crown categories: .408 average, seven home runs, and 31 RBIs.
Bethany added two more runs in both the third and fourth innings to lead 15-1. Northland didn't lay back and scored 12 unanswered to cut the lead to 15-13 after six innings. The Vikings added a run in the seventh and
Shannon Heitz held the Lumberjills scoreless as BLC got the 16-13 win.
Chester and Ludewig each collected three hits in their final collegiate games.
Bethany ends the season with a 9-27 overall record and 8-13 mark in the UMAC, good for sixth place.
