Vikings split with Crown in high-scoring affairs

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - Scoring was not an issue Tuesday as Bethany Lutheran and Crown combined for 58 runs in a UMAC softball doubleheader as both teams came away with a win.

After losing the opener 11-8, the Vikings bounced back to take game two 23-15. When a team gets 22 hits, it's tough to single out just person, but Becca Ludewig stood out. She homered in the first game, but that wasn't enough for her as she cracked two more in the nightcap along with a triple to go 6-for-9 with seven RBIs and 18 total bases in the twinbill.

Ludewig book-ended game two with home runs. She hit a 3-run blast to left center in the first and belted a solo shot to right center in the seventh. In between, Bethany did plenty of scoring putting up at least one run in every inning. All nine batters collected at least one hit with four getting at least three. Topping that list was Nicole Starkson who went 4-for-6 and scored three times. Amanna Berthusen was 3-for-6 with three RBIs, Allison Norton went 3-for-4 while knocking in a pair and Gena Chester was 3-for-6.

Bethany trailed 11-9 after three innings, but after a 6-run fourth, held onto the lead for good. Norton had a pair of run-producing hits in the frame, Berthusen had a 2-RBI double, and Sletten brought in one more with a single.

The Vikings 23 runs were third most in a game in the program's Division III era (since 2005).

Bethany (4-18, 3-4 in UMAC) is on the road again for their next games Friday at St. Scholastica.
