Box Score Men's Soccer Earns Win over MLC in Overtime
MANKATO, Minn. – The men's soccer team entered the game Tuesday night at home versus Martin Luther College in need of a conference victory to keep their playoff hopes alive.
Kenny Johnson (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) was able to do just that, as he scored the team's only goal in the 94
th minute of play.
Â
Last time these teams met, the intense rivalry created great competition, but the Vikings were able to come away with the 4-3 win over the Knights. Tuesday night's game picked up right where the late September game left off, as the game remained physical from the first whistle to the last.
Â
Johnson's goal in overtime, which gave the Vikings a crucial victory, was assisted by
Mike Loguercio (Tavernier, Fla./Florida Keys CC). Defensively for the Vikings, goalkeeper
Matt Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) had six saves per period, totaling 12 saves on night.
Â
On Saturday, October 17
th, the Vikings will travel to Duluth to take on the Saints from St. Scholastica for another important conference game. Game time is scheduled for 3:15 p.m.Â
