ST. PAUL, Minn. -The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week is a feature that takes place each week throughout the conference portion of the season with one contest being selected and highlighted as the UMAC Game of the Week.
This week's UMAC Game of the Week will take place on Saturday, October 3 as Bethany Lutheran College hosts the University of Northwestern in men's soccer. Saturday's action is a key UMAC contest as both teams hope to earn a spot in the UMAC Postseason Tournament.Â
About the VikingsThe Bethany men's soccer team will host Northwestern on Saturday, October 3 with their sights set on winning their second UMAC game of the season. The Vikings are currently (1-7-2, 1-3-1) and will face the Eagles from Northwestern who are (3-6, 3-2) on the season thus far.
Bethany is led by senior Jorge Perez who leads the team, and is eighth in the conference, with five goals. Perez has ten points on the season, which is tenth in the UMAC. The Vikings are also led by Michael Loguercio who is also a senior on the team. Loguercio has recorded two goals and two assists on the season for a total of six points. The Vikings sophomore goalkeeper, Matt Bitter has been the starting keeper for the Vikings in all but one game this season. He has a save percentage of .681 entering the game vs. Northwestern.
About the EaglesThe University of Northwestern men's soccer team enters Saturday's contest fourth in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) standings. The Eagles are 3-2 in the league, after picking up a dramatic double-overtime win over Crown Tuesday night in St. Bonifacius. UNW has also picked up conference wins over Minnesota Morris (1-0) and North Central (2-0).Â
Eric Fast and Mateusz Gralinski lead the way offensively for Northwestern, as each have found the back of the net twice this fall, while Matthew McCann and Fast have both tallied a pair of assists. Turner Main has spent most the year in goal, having racked up over 800 minutes. The second-year player has posted two shutouts this season, while grabbing 48 saves.
Game Notes- Northwestern and Bethany Lutheran met twice last year and tied on both occasions. In Mankato, things ended knotted 0-0 and in St. Paul the final was 1-1.
- Saturday's match will feature two of the top goalkeeper's in the league, as BLC's Matt Bitter ranks third (56) in the conference in saves, while UNW's Turner Main is fifth (48).
- The last time the Eagles lost in Mankato was during the 2010 season, when Bethany Lutheran came away with a 2-1 victory.
