Men's Soccer Earns Victory over Finlandia

MANKATO, Minn. – After the men's soccer team fell to St. Mary's on Wednesday night, the Vikings were looking for a bounce back win on Friday afternoon when they played another non-conference game. This time around the Vikings played Finlandia and earned a 3-1 victory over the Lions.

Bethany played an overall solid game both offensively and defensively with timely passing, impressive defensive stops, and crisps passes for all 90 minutes of the soccer game on Friday night at the Bethany Soccer Field.

Adam Kluball (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) got the scoring started in the 15th minute of play when he scored an unassisted goal to put the Vikings ahead 1-0. Less than 10 minutes later, senior teammate, Jorge Perez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain Fort Carson) capitalized on a penalty kick to extend the lead to two goals for the Vikings.

Finlandia responded with a goal of their own right before halftime to cut the Bethany lead in half. Meles Abraha (St. Paul, Minn./Community of Peace Academy) scored a goal early in the second period to extend the Vikings lead to 3-1. The goal by Abraha was the final goal of the game as Bethany earned their third victory of the season by defeating Finlandia. Matt Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) earned the win for the Vikings as the starting goalkeeper.

On Tuesday, October 13 the Vikings are set to do battle against conference rival, Martin Luther at the Bethany Soccer Field starting at 7:15 p.m.
