Box Score 2 CAPE CORAL, Fla. - In their first game of the day.
Anna Pipenhagen not only was dominant on the mound, but she also delivered the game-winning hit at the plate knocking in
Katy Snyder from second in the bottom of the seventh to defeat Alverno College 1-0.
Prior to the seventh, Pipenhagen and Alverno's Olivia Schneider were involved in a pitcher's duel. Schneider struck out five Bethany batters and allowed only one base runner through 6 1/3 innings. Pipenhagen was masterful on the mound retiring 12 Alverno batters via the strikeout. Alverno threathened to score in the top of the sixth getting a runner to third base with two outs, but Pipenhagen struck out the final batter to end the threat.
In the bottom of the seventh, Snyder reached second on a dropped fly ball by the Alverno shortstop. Pipenhagen then laced a 1-0 pitch to left center for the walk-off win.
Riding a high, Bethany started their game against Dominican University with a pair of runs in the top of the first.
Aimie Wiechmann singled to start the contest and would score the game's first run when
Cindy Pawlitschek walked with the bases loaded. Two batters later,
Adria Dahlke brought in
Dani Emkes with an RBI grounder.
The Stars would prove to be tough outs though as they scored four runs in the first, third, and fourth innings and handed the Vikings a 12-2 setback.
After an off day Wednesday, Bethany is back on the southwest Florida diamond Thursday for a pair of games.
