Box Score 2 WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. - After a successful spring training trip to Florida, the Bethany softball team played their first games in Minnesota Wednesday at the Cobber Round Robin Tournament at the West St. Paul Dome. The Vikings had their chances, but fell to both Finlandia and Concordia-Moorhead.
Against Finlanda, Bethany started a rally in the top of the fourth in an effort to get the game's first run.Â
Anna Pipenhagen got on with a one out walk.
Cindy Pawlitschek followed with a single to right and both runners advanced an extra base on a fielding error. Lions pitcher Miranda Brewer struck out the final two batters to end the threat.
Finlandia took advantage of some miscues to score three in their half of the fourth and two more in the fifth.
Pawlitschek belted her second home run of the season in the sixth, but the Vikings fell 6-1.
Bethany had a great start to their game against Concordia-Moorhead. Pipenhagen struck out the first eight Cobber batters she faced and finished with 15 for the game. Offensively, Bethany put up a crooked number in the second. Pipenhagen led off the bottom half of the inning with a single to center. Pawlitschek then walked. Later, the duo were on second and third with two outs.Â
Angela Timm brought them both home with a single to center to give Bethany a 2-0 lead.
The Cobbers got an unearned run in the third and took the lead with three runs in the sixth and would go on to win the game 4-2.
Bethany (4-6) is back at the dome Thursday for the second day of the Cobber Round Robin where they will face Northwestern at 10 a.m. and Finlandia again at 1 p.m.
