Vikings earn split in season-opening games in Florida

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CAPE CORAL, Fla. - The Bethany softball team could not have had a better start to their season. They scored four, two, and nine runs in their first three innings en route to a five-inning, 10-run win in the opener. The Vikings were shutout in their second game.

Against Eastern Nazarene in the first game, Bethany scored all four of their first inning runs off wild pitches. Aimie Wiechmann delivered an RBI double in the second and Cindy Pawlitschek's sacrifice fly gave BLC a 6-0 lead after two innings.

The Vikings broke it open in the third. Rachel Kurtenbach and Katy Snyder each had RBI singles before Pawlitschek came to bat with the bases loaded. She laced a drive over the left field fence for a grand slam. Bethany added two more to up 15-1 after three innings.

Desi Becker got the win in her first collegiate start as Bethany cruised at a 15-5, five-inning win.

Bethany had trouble getting baserunners against Emory & Henry in the second game. Roxanne Hillman struck out 11 Vikings' batters and allowed only two hits as Bethany fell 6-0.

Bethany has two more games on tap for Tuesday against a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference teams beginning at 9 a.m. ET against Alverno College followed by a matchup with Dominican University.
