Box Score 2 MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany softball team wrapped the home portion of their 2015 schedule Saturday hosting St. Scholastica for a UMAC doubleheader. The Saints pulled off the sweep with a pair of close contests.
Anna Pipenhagen flirted with a no-hitter in the opener holding the Saints hitless through five innings. St. Scholastica broke through in the sixth when Molly Jazdzewski singled to lead off the frame. She would later score the game's first run on a double from Micah McGuinness. The Saints scored once more in the sixth and two more in the seventh to win the opener 4-0.
Bethany had a great chance to crack the scoreboard in the fourth when they loaded the bases with one out, but were unable to get a runner to cross the plate.
Pipenhagen struck out seven in the defeat.
The Vikings were able to crack the scoreboard first in the second game.Â
Aimie Wiechmann walked leading off the game and would work her way over to third with one out. She scored on a throwing error giving Bethany an early lead.
St. Scholastica countered with three in the second to take a 3-1 lead. Bethany got one run back in the third as another Wiechmann lead-off walk led to her cutting the deficit to 3-2.
The Saints scored twice more and won the game 5-2.
Bethany (8-18, 2-9 in UMAC) next plays a doubleheader Wednesday at Martin Luther.
