MANKATO, Minn. - The Bethany men's tennis has already had a season of firsts heading into their home contest with Martin Luther Wednesday. Earlier in 2015, they had their first dual sweep victory and defeated Northwestern for the first time. Wednesday, they won their seventh match of the season, setting a new program high for a season and
Paul Riediger won his 14th career doubles match to become the program leader in that category.
Riediger teamed with
Jacob Kubler to win their No. 3 doubles match 8-1 over the MLC duo of Ethan Schultz and Yaffet Gabayehu. That victory was part of the team's second 9-0 dual sweep of the season.
Bethany won five of their six singles matches in straight sets. At No. 4 singles,
Brent Heflin had the most lopsided victory when he shutout his opponent 6-0, 6-0.
Jason Buechler lost only two games at No. 6 singles and
Carter Dahl lost only three games at No. 3 singles. Other singles matches wins came from
Troy Hoyord (6-3, 6-1), Kubler (6-4, 6-2), and
Andrew Jelken (3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9)).
The duos of Dahl/Jelken and Buechler/
DJ Jackson both won their doubles matches 8-6.
Bethany (7-9, 4-1 in UMAC) next plays at Augustana Friday and returns home to face Northwestern and Minn.-Morris Saturday.
