Vikings lose pair of one run decisions

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. PAUL - Two days after winning a pair of one run games, the Bethany softball team found themselves on the opposite end of one run decisions Friday at Northwestern.

Three combined runs scored in the opening game and all of them crossed the plate in the fifth inning. In the top half, Magen Meyer reached to lead off the frame. Later on second with two outs, Desi Becker dove in the game's first run with a double to left.

The Eagles countered with a two-run, two-out rally in the bottom half. Jennifer Ankrom and Ann Lokke got run-producing hits to put UNW put 2-1.

Bethany was unable to get a rally together in the final innings and fell by that score.

In the second game, Bethany jumped out to a 3-0 lead. After scoring a run in the first, the Vikings added two more in the third. Aimie Wiechmann led off with a bunt single and later advanced to third on a single from Anna Pipenhagen. Wiechmann scored on an RBI ground out and Pipenhagen later crossed the plate on an RBI single from Allison Norton.

Northwestern scored once in both the fifth and sixth to cut the deficit to 3-2. They tied the game with one out in the seventh and later delivered a two-out, walk-off single to take the game 4-3 and complete the sweep.

Bethany (10-20, 4-11 in UMAC) returns to the twin cities Saturday to face North Central.
