Vikings score 27 runs in sweep of North Central

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MINNEAPOLIS - Bethany scored early and often amassing 27 runs in a doubleheader sweep of North Central Saturday in UMAC softball action.

In the opener, the Vikings used 8-run, and 6-run innings to cruise to a 17-3, 5-inning win. Leading 3-1 going into the third and with four runs already crossing the plate, Anna Pipenhagen came to the plate with the bases loaded looking to add more. She brought them all home, including herself, with a grand slam that gave BLC an 11-1 advantage.

Cindy Pawlitschek and Angela Timm each delivered run-producing hits as part of a 6-run fourth.

This was more than enough for Pipenhagen who struck out ten over five innings to get the win.

The second game was much tighter. Allison Norton and Amber Schulz each had RBI doubles in the first as Bethany scored three runs in the both the first and second innings. North Central though scored four times in each of those innings and led 8-6 after two.

Pipenhagen came on in relief and kept the Rams at bay the remainder of the game allowing only one run over the final five innings.

Bethany took the lead in the fourth thanks in large part to a Magen Meyer triple.

After North Central tied it at 9 in the fifth, the Vikings regained their advantage in the sixth. Pipenhagen singled to lead off the frame. Pawlitschek advanced her to third following her own single. Norton's sacrifice fly scored Pipenhagen for, what proved to be, the game-winning RBI.

Bethany (12-20, 6-11 in UMAC) plays in a mini-UMAC Crossover event Tuesday versus Crown and Minn.-Morris at Crown.
