Box Score 2 WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Bethany softball team returned to the West St. Paul Dome for the 2-day UMAC Crossover event. They cruised to a 5-inning win in the first game and then an impressive program record was set in the second as the Vikings split a pair on the first day.
Bethany put crooked numbers on the scoreboard in every inning as they topped North Central 13-1 in the opener.Â
Cindy Pawlitschek provided the power in the early as her 2-run home run added to a 3-run first.
The Vikings added four more runs in each of the second and third innings. In the third, after the first two batters walked,Â
Dani Emkes smacked a run-producing double.Â
Katy Snyder brought in a run with a single to left and Pawlitschek plated two more with a single to center.
Emkes, Snyder, Pawlitschek, and
Desi Becker all had at least two hits and two RBIs with Pawlitschek driving in four.
Against Northwestern in the second game, the story wasÂ
Anna Pipenhagen. The freshman, who's second in the nation in strikeouts per seven innings (13.2), exceeded that average in a big way. Eighteen of her 21 outs came via the strikeout, setting a new single-game program record. The Eagles had trouble catching up to Pipenhagen's fastball as 15 of the Ks came of the swinging variety. The previous high for strikeouts in a game was 15, which Pipenhagen did twice earlier this season and by Nicole Starkson in 2013. Northwestern did win the game 1-0.
Bethany (7-11, 1-2 in UMAC) takes on St. Scholastica and Northland in day two of the UMAC Crossover Friday.
