Box Score Men's Soccer Ties with Crown

MANKATO, Minn. – On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the men's soccer team took on the Crown Storm in a non-conference tilt. The Vikings earned a 2-2 double overtime tie with Crown.
The Vikings came into play (0-5-1, (0-1-1 in UMAC) looking for their first win of the season while Crown (0-3-1, 0-1-1) was in the same situation, looking for their first win of the season as well. The game started out very physical from the opening whistle and neither team would let up until the final buzzer sounded to end the double overtime session between the two teams.
The Storm got the scoring started in the 7th minute when David Jensen received a pass from Angelo Silione and found the back of the net to give the Storm a 1-0 lead over Bethany. For the reminder of the first half the score was 1-0 in Crown's favor.
The Vikings would allow Crown to add another goal in the 49th minute of play, but that would be it. Bethany responded in the 69th minute when Ryan Behmer (Salt Lake City, Utah/West Lutheran) sent a beautiful pass to teammate Michael Loguercio (Tavernier, Fla./Coral Shores (Florida Keys CC) for a Vikings goal. Four minutes later, Loguercio would send a pass to Jorge Perez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain Fort Carsen)Â to tie the game up at two apiece.
From that point on, both teams had multiple scoring chances but could not find the perfect play to lead their team to victory. The game ended in a double overtime tie.
On the day, the Vikings attempted 20 shots compared to the Storm's 14. Matt Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.) started in goal and recorded nine saves.
The next game for Bethany men's soccer will be Wednesday, September 19 when they take on conference rival, Martin Luther in New Ulm, Minn. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
