Box Score Men's Soccer Earns First Win

NEW ULM, Minn. – Bethany men's soccer team earned their first victory of the season on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings traveled to Martin Luther to take on the Knights in a conference battle which the Vikings won 4-3.

On the rainy, gloomy day the Vikings win came at no better time as they beat conference rival. Bethany scored four first period goals which would be all the Vikings would need to secure the first win of the season.

Kenny Johnson (Otsego, Minn./Rogers) and
Jorge Perez (Colorado Springs, Colo./Fountain Fort Carson) would be the highlight players of the game for Bethany. Perez got the scoring started in the fourth minute when he found the back of the net on an unassisted goal. Less than two minutes later,
Jorge Perez would strike again for his second goal of the game. His second goal was assisted by
Kenny Johnson.

The Knights would answer with two goals in the 25
th and 26
th minute to tie the game at two apiece. Bethany clicking offensively on the afternoon would respond in the 29
th minute when
Kenny Johnson scored his first goal of the day and first goal of the season, assisted by
Brady Johnson (Rogers, Minn.). The combo would connect minutes later when
Brady Johnson sent a pass to
Kenny Johnson to put the Vikings ahead 4-2 entering half time.

In the second half of play, the Knights would cut the deficit in half as they scored a goal in the 57
th minute. That would be how the final score would end as the Bethany Vikings defeated the Knights from Martin Luther 4-3 for their first win of the season.

On the day, Bethany attempted 15 shots compared to Martin Luther's 20. Of those shots, both teams put eight shots on goal. The starting goalkeeper for the men's soccer team on the afternoon was
Matt Bitter (Bemidji, Minn.).

The soccer team will be at home on Saturday, September 26 when they welcome the Yellowjackets from Wis.-Superior to Bethany for a 2 p.m. start. Come out and support the Vikings as they look to another UMAC victory.
