Volleyball Wins Conference Opener

 
MANKATO, Minn. – The Vikings Volleyball team welcomed the Lumberjills from Northland back to the campus of Bethany Lutheran College for the second weekend in a row. Bethany took on the Lumberjills in a home match to open up the 2015 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference season. The Vikings came away with a win in three straight sets over Northland to claim their first conference win of the season (25-23, 25-21, 25-16).
 
Bethany's offense led them to the conference victory as they recorded double the number of kills as the Lumberjills, ending the afternoon with 46 kills as a team. Kristen Mielke (New Germany, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) led the way for the Vikings on the offensive side, topping the leaderboard with 13 kills in the game, while teammates Alex Hansen (Austin, Minn.) and Meagan Sons (Green Isle, Minn./Central) also contributed 11 and nine kills, respectively.
 
Defensively, the Vikings were able to shut down the Lumberjills and ended with a total of five blocks. Jessica Grimsley (Waconia, Minn./Mayer Lutheran) picked up 16 digs on the day, while teammates Jasmine Carlson (Windom, Minn.) and Mackenna Hinz (Burnsville, Minn./Rosemount) added eight apiece.
 
Setting for the Vikings, Alexandra Grejtak (New Ulm, Minn.) recorded 36 assists on the day, while also adding a pair of service aces.
 
Next up, the Vikings will travel to New Ulm, Minn. on Tuesday, September 29th for a match up against the Knights of Martin Luther College at 7 p.m. Head over to New Ulm and show your support as the Vikings look to add another conference victory.
