MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany women's soccer team returned to the BLC Soccer Field on Wednesday afternoon against the Cougars from Minnesota-Morris for an non-conference tilt. The Vikings entered the contest coming off the biggest win in program history by defeating St. Scholastica, who was previously undefeated in UMAC action this season. The victory over the Saints was a first in program history for the women's soccer team and head coach Derick Lyngholm.

The Cougars and Vikings played into the first overtime session, with the Cougars taking the advantage early in the period to defeat the Vikings 2-1.

Freshman goalkeeper Emma Matter (North Mankato, Minn.) finished the game in net for Bethany with 10 saves in her fifth game of the young career. Reigning UMAC Offensive Player of the Week Nicole Moldstad (North Mankato, Minn.) found the back of the net in the 15th minute of play to put the Vikings up 1-0. The assist was credit to Lydia Wildauer (Port Washington, Wis.).

Bethany finished with 10 shots on goal compared to 12 from the Cougars.

What Lies Ahead for the Vikings:
Bethany has two remaining UMAC games left on their schedule this season. On Saturday, Oct. 22nd the Vikings will travel to Ashland, Wis. for an important conference matchup with the Lumberjills. The Lumberjills currently hold a 6-0-1 record in the conference, holding down first place in the UMAC.  If the Vikings defeat Northland, they will play next Friday afternoon (Oct. 28) for a share of the regular season conference title and the opportunity to be the No. 1 seed into the post-season tournament. The important game would be against the Crown Storm at 3:15 p.m. at the BLC Soccer Field. In the previous contest against the Storm, the Vikings won 5-0.

Up Next:
So again, the Bethany women's soccer team (8-6-2, 4-1-1) travels to Northland for a key conference matchup against the Lumberjills on Saturday, October 22nd at 3:15 p.m. To stay current with Vikings athletics this season, continue to visit www.blcvikings.com and follow @BLCvikings on Twitter.
