Vikings Battle with Division II Mavericks

 
MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany baseball team traveled across town on Tuesday for a non-conference game against the Minnesota State Mavericks. The Mavericks are a member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, which represents NCAA Division II. Currently, the Mavericks are ranked 25th in the d2baseballnews poll, are receiving votes in the NCBWA Poll, and ranks 4th in the NCBWA Central Region Poll.

  • Location: Mankato, Minn./MSU Baseball Complex

Bethany took an early lead as Drew Quame (Eagle Lake, Minn.) sent a shot over the left field fence to put the Vikings up 2-0 in the top half of the first inning. Quame hit another home run in the fifth inning, to tally his third home run of the season. The junior finished the game with five RBI's, totaling 18 through the team's first 10 games.
 
In the seventh inning, Nick Caldeen (Blaine, Minn.) went deep for his first home run of the 2016 season. The sophomore catcher recorded three hits and scored three runs against the Mavericks. Also collecting a hit on the afternoon was Alek Zentzis (Forest Lake, Minn.), Josh Montbriand (Blaine, Minn.), and Alex Babcock (Elk River, Minn.).
 
Zentzis started on the mound for Bethany. The junior struck out three batters in two innings of work.
 
Up Next:
The Vikings will open up their 2016 home schedule on March 28th with a non-conference game against Carleton College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. from the Bethany Baseball Field. Fans can find more information at www.blcvikings.com.
