Box Score 2 Softball Drops Pair on Monday

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The softball team returned to play on Monday, looking for win number two on the young season. The Vikings played a pair of games against Wisconsin Lutheran and Geneva College.

Game One: Wisconsin Lutheran 15, Bethany Lutheran 8 in eight inningsWisconsin Lutheran scored one run in the top of the first inning and one run in the top of the fifth inning while the Vikings scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, knotting the score at 2-2 heading into the seventh inning.

In the seventh inning, WLC scored five runs on five hits with two Bethany errors to take a 7-2 lead heading into the bottom half of the seventh. The Vikings responded with five runs of their own, collecting five hits in the process to send the game into extra innings. WLC exploded in the extra frame, leading to a 15-7 victory over the Vikings.

Highlights from the Vikings:Rachel Kurtenbach had herself a nice day at the plate, going 3-4 with three RBI's and a run scored while
Anna Pipenhagen finished the game with two hits, one being a home run, and three RBI's for Bethany. Freshman
Kendra Porath recorded her first collegiate hits to her young career.

Christina Wickingson took the mound loss for BLC. The junior pitched the final four innings of the contest, striking out six batters.

Game Two: Geneva College 13, Bethany Lutheran 5In the second game of the split doubleheader, it was Geneva taking the early lead and never looking back. The Vikings finished the game with nine hits and two errors compared to the Golden Tornadoes 12 hits and two errors.

Highlights from the Vikings:Averi Cash and
Amber Schulz paced the Vikings offensive with two hits apiece.
Schulz also collected two RBI's and scored one run for Bethany.
Angela Timm recorded two RBI's during the game.
Magen Meyer suffered the mound loss.
