NEW ULM, Minn. – The softball team traveled to Martin Luther on Friday afternoon for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Knights. The Knights won game won 6-2 before the Vikings earned a 3-1 victory in game two.

Bethany stands at 2-4 in UMAC play and 5-15 overall on the season.

Game One: Martin Luther 6, Bethany Lutheran 2
An RBI single by Amber Schulz (Amboy, Minn.) in the fourth inning and another RBI single in the seventh inning by Magen Meyer (Spring Valley, Minn.) made up the scoring for the Vikings in the game one loss to MLC. Anna Pipenhagen (Elk River, Minn.) led the Vikings offense with two hits and one run scored.

Game Two: Bethany Lutheran 3, Martin Luther 1
The Vikings took an early lead and held on the rest of the way for a 3-1 game two win. Bethany opened the game with three consecutive triples to take a 2-0 lead after the first inning. Three runs would be enough support for starting pitcher Anna Pipenhagen, who held MLC to only three hits in seven innings to get the Vikings the win. The sophomore finished the contest with nine strikeouts.

Offensively, Christina Wickingson (Mason, Wis.) and Kendra Porath (Wyoming, Minn.) led the way with two hits, an RBI, and one run scored apiece. Pipenhagen and Angela Timm (Wood Lake, Minn.) also had a hit in game two to make up the hitting attack for Bethany.
