MANKATO, Minn. – On Friday afternoon, the Bethany baseball team played an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Northwestern Eagles at the BLC Baseball Field. The Eagles won both contest, 14-6 and 5-4.
Game One: Northwestern 14, Bethany Lutheran 6
The middle of the Vikings batting order paced the offensive attack in game one of the doubleheader, contributing with six of the Vikings 11 hits.
Drew Quame (Eagle Lake, Minn.),
Alek Zentzis (Forest Lake, Minn.), and
Brandyn Olsen (Blue Earth, Minn.) each finished the game with two hits apiece as the 4-5-6 batters.
Clay Anderson (Ramsey, Minn.) added two RBIs for Bethany.
Zentzis was tagged with the mound loss. The left-hander struck out five batters in 3.2 innings of work.
Game Two: Northwestern 5, Bethany Lutheran 5
Zentzis hit his fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the Eagles lead to 5-4. In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Vikings had the bases loaded with no outs, but were unable to produce a run to send the game into extra innings.
Zentzis finished the game with two hits, two RBIs, and scored one run while
Nick Caldeen (Blaine, Minn.) recorded three hits, one RBI, and also scored a run.
Anthony Radloff (Green Bay, Wis.) had yet another quality start on the mound for Bethany. The freshman pitched seven innings, allowing three runs while striking out four batters to earn the no decision.
Nick Dewanz (New Ulm, Minn.) was tagged with the mound loss.
