Vikings go to Double-Overtime with Rams

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bethany men's soccer team (1-11-1, 0-7-1) played North Central (4-4-3, 1-3-3) in UMAC action on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams battled it out for 110 minutes, but neither team could gain the final advantage. The Vikings and Rams ended their battle in a 2-2 tie.

The Rams came out quick against the Vikings, taking an early 2-0 lead in the first half. The Rams scored their first goal at the nine minute mark in the first half and then scored their second at the 26 minute mark. The Vikings didn't let the Rams get any more separation and then closed the gap when freshman midfielder Jakob Burgess scored in the 34th minute. Burgess's goal was assisted by Chan Park. There was no more scoring from either team in the first half, so the Rams took a 2-1 lead into the break.

Down by one goal, the Vikings did what they had to do to even the score in the second half. Freshman midfielder Logan Boyer scored a goal in the 57th minute. The goal was assisted by Wesley Shade and the Vikings and Rams were tied 2-2. There would be no more scoring in regulation from either team which sent the game into one overtime and then a second overtime. The defense and goalkeeping was solid for both teams in the extra periods and the game ended after 110 minutes in a 2-2 tie.

The two teams were dead-even in total shots with 16 each. Ryan Lietz played 110 minutes in net for the Vikings and made five saves. Jakob Burgess and Chan Park each tallied six shots in the game. Park had five shots on goal and Burgess had three shots on goal.
