MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Bethany women's soccer team (4-9, 3-5) defeated North Central (5-7, 1-6) in UMAC play on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman forward Madison Perry had a huge game for the Vikings, turning in a hat-trick in the 4-2 win.
The Vikings grabbed an early lead in the 12th minute of the first half when Perry scored her first goal of the game. Three minutes and 42 seconds later, Perry and the Vikings struck again for their second goal. Perry's second goal was assisted by junior midfielder Emily Barthel. The Viking defense was stellar in the first half, helping the team to a 2-0 halftime lead.
The Vikings got back to work quickly in the second half with a goal from sophomore defender Grace Rysdahl, assisted by Elena De Vera. The Vikings scored their fourth unanswered goal in the 62nd minute, again from Madison Perry. North Central scored two goals late, in the 78th minute and 81st minute, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. The Vikings won by a final score of 4-2.
Averi Cash played the full 90 minutes for the Vikings and recorded seven saves. Nicole Moldstad tested the North Central defense with four shots of her own, two on goal. North Central had the edge in total shots, 16 to 11, but the Vikings made more of their opportunities. Each team had four corner kicks.
