ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The Bethany Vikings (10-15, 6-7) recorded their 10th overall win this season and sixth UMAC victory with a win on the road over Crown (3-21, 2-13). The Vikings won in straight sets 26-24, 25-14, 25-7.
The first set was a battle back and forth. Crown got off to a quick 5-1 start before the Vikings began to settle in. Just when it looked like the Vikings would even the score, Crown pulled away again, leading 14-6 at one point. BLC called a timeout to regroup and slowly began to chip away at the lead. Still down 22-18, the Vikings rattled off four straight points to even the score. Bethany and Crown went back and forth a few more times before the Vikings closed out the first set 26-24.
The Vikings were much more dominant in the second set, wasting no time in taking control, leading 13-3 halfway through. The Vikings held their 10 point lead throughout the rest of the set and won 25-14. In set three, the Vikings were even more dominant, winning by a final score of 25-7.
The Vikings held a huge advantage in kills, outhitting Crown 44-20. Megan Rutt led the way with 13 kills, followed by Alannah Menk and Haley Domonoske with nine and eight respectively. The Vikings also recorded an impressive nine service aces. Jasmine Carlson had 35 assists and Jessica Grimsley had 14 digs.
Anna Nelson, a senior from Cannon Falls, Minn., recorded 14 digs in the match for the Vikings. With her 14 digs tonight, Nelson surpassed 1000 digs for her career. Way to go Anna!
Up Next: The Vikings travel to Duluth, Minn. on Saturday for a triangular in which they will play a UMAC match St. Scholastica and a non-conference match against River Falls. The Vikings will play at 1 PM and 3 PM.
