DULUTH, Minn. – The Vikings volleyball team (10-18, 6-8) dropped two matches on Saturday afternoon at the College of St. Scholastica triangular event. The Vikings lost their first match, a UMAC contest, to the Saints in four games (14-25, 25-18, 21-25, 23-25) and their second match to River Falls in three games (19-25, 17-25, 21-25).
The Saints took control of set one early and won by a comfortable margin of 25-15. The Vikings bounced back in the second set, winning 25-18 to even out the match score. Set three and four was as competitive as could be, but the Saints would prevail, taking set three 25-21 and set four 25-23.
The Vikings tallied 37 kills compared to 46 for the Saints. Megan Rutt led the Vikings with 13 kills, Alannah Menk contributed seven, and Jasmine Carlson added six. Megan Rutt and Haley Domonoske also did a nice job at the net. Rutt had five blocks and Domonoske added four. Jasmine Carlson led the Vikings with 30 assists and Anna Nelson had 10 digs.
The Vikings hoped to bounce back in match two against the Falcons of UW-River Falls, but they were beaten in three sets. The Vikings fought hard and were competitive in all three sets, but they did not have enough juice to overcome the Falcons.
Alannah Menk was the kill leader in match two with 11. Megan Rutt added nine kills and Jasmine Carlson had four. Carlson also served up 26 assists for the Vikings. Anna Nelson had nine digs and Mackenna Hinz contributed eight digs.
Up Next: The Vikings will travel to New Ulm, Minn. on Wednesday, October 25 to take on UMAC opponent Martin Luther. The match is set to start at 7 PM.
