Vikings Lose to Knights

MANKATO, Minn.  – The Bethany women's soccer team (7-10, 5-6) hosted Martin Luther (8-7-2, 7-3-1) under the lights in UMAC play on a beautiful Wednesday evening. The Vikings were riding a four-game winning streak and hoping to add another win for their seniors on their home field.

Madison Perry put the first hard shot of the game by either team on net with just under 30 minutes remaining in the first half. Martin Luther goalkeeper Maria Tomissetti positioned herself in front of Perry's shot for the save. Martin Luther gained a few chances in the first half with a shot on goal and a couple corner kicks. On the second corner attempt for the Knights, Haley Johnson sent a hard ball in play which bounced off the head of a Bethany defender and past Averi Cash into the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead. Haley Johnson made a long run for the Knights in the 33rd minute which ended with a nice pass to Morgan Hill for another Knight goal. The Vikings had a few more opportunities in the first half, but were unable to capitalize and went into halftime down 2-0.

Martin Luther had the advantage and the momentum to begin the second half. The Knights peppered Vikings goalkeeper Averi Cash with an array of shots. Cash made a number of nice saves, but the Knights struck again off a saved shot that rebounded into the box. The Knights had a 3-0 lead halfway through the second period. Nicole Moldstad and Haley Sisson had a couple shots on goal late in the period, but the Vikings couldn't get anything past the Knights. The Knights would win the game by a final score of 3-0.

The Vikings would like to say a special thank you to their three seniors Nicole Moldstad, Averi Cash, and Lydia Wildauer.

Up Next: The Vikings finish out the regular season on Saturday at 1 PM in Duluth against Scholastica.
