MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany men's soccer team (1-10, 0-6) lost to the Eagles of Northwestern (5-3-2, 4-1-1) by a score of 2-1 on Wednesday evening.
The Vikings and Eagles battled back and forth during the first half. The Eagles held a slight advantage in time of possession, but the Vikings had many good opportunities on goal as well while displaying some nifty passing skills. The best opportunity for the Vikings came at the 36 minute mark when Nathnael Haile's shot found the back of the net for a goal, assisted by Wesley Shade. Haile's goal gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead. The Eagles quickly responded, however, 35 seconds later with a goal from Josiah Donat. The Vikings and Eagles went into halftime tied 1-1.
The Vikings fought hard in the second half, but they were held scoreless while the Eagles netted one more goal at the 64 minute mark, this time from Joshua Hinz. With the goal from Hinz, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead and held on to win the game.
Overall, the Vikings and Eagles each had 15 shots. The Eagles held a slight 11-7 advantage for shots on goal. Ryan Lietz was all over the field again playing hard while making nine saves in the game for the Vikings.
Up Next: The Vikings travel to Morris to take on the Cougars on Saturday, October 7. Game time is set for 3:15 PM.
