SUPERIOR, Wis. – The Bethany volleyball team (7-15, 3-7) lost a UMAC match to Superior (14-9, 8-3) on Saturday afternoon 3-1 (22-25, 27-25, 9-25, 20-25). The Vikings battled hard in three out of the four sets, challenging one of the better teams in the UMAC.
In set one, the Vikings grabbed a quick 4-1 lead before Superior responded with a seven-point run to take an 8-4 lead. The two teams battled back and forth and were tied up at 22 points each before a three-point run by the Yellowjackets ended the first set. The Vikings came back fighting in the second set and held onto a 20-15 lead. The Yellowjackets put together their best attempt, but the Vikings hung on to win the second set 27-25. In the third set, Superior showed why they are one of the best teams in the UMAC and made quick work of the Vikings. The fourth and final set was once again back and forth, but it was the Yellowjackets who would go on to win and clinch the match.
The Vikings and Yellowjackets each had 43 kills in the match. Megan Rutt and Alannah Menk both reached double figures in kills with Rutt tallying 14 and Menk adding 10. Jasmine Carlson had 31 assists for the Vikings and Anna Nelson had 15 digs.
