NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran softball team kicked off the 2017 season on Friday night with a non-conference doubleheader against St. Olaf College at the Dundas Dome. First-year Head Coach Dan Nessler and his squad dropped the first game of the DH before earning the split with a 3-0 win in game two.
Game One: St. Olaf 18, Bethany Lutheran 0
In the opening game of the season, the St. Olaf pitching staff threw a combined no-hitter against the Vikings.
Game Two: Bethany Lutheran 3, St. Olaf 0
Anna Pipenhagen (Elk River, Minn.) pitched seven innings for the BLC softball team, helping secure the first victory of the 2017 season. The junior struck out 10 batters while giving up three hits. Offensively, Pipenhagen had an RBI double in the third inning, scoring
Lydia Westedt (La Velle, Wis.) as the Vikings went on to score once more in the bottom of the third.
