BLC Baseball Captures First Win of 2017

TUCSON, Ariz. – After struggling to get their offensive game going in the previous four contests, the Bethany Lutheran baseball team captured its first win of 2017 on Thursday afternoon against Simpson College. The Storm took game one of the doubleheader before the Vikings put together a complete seven inning contest in game two to secure the win.
 
GAME ONE: Simpson College 7, Bethany Lutheran 4:
The bats for the Simpson Storm showed up in game one of the doubleheader. Simpson hit three home runs against the Vikings starting pitcher. For BLC, senior Nolan Grose (Waterville, Minn.) led the Vikings with two hits, one of them being a double. Kevin Harris (El Paso, Texas) recorded a single and in RBI while Brandyn Olsen (Blue Earth, Minn.) hit his first home run of the 2017 season.
 
GAME TWO: Bethany Lutheran 8, Simpson College 1:
In the sixth game of the season, Bethany Lutheran put together a complete contest to earn the first win of the season. Brandyn Olsen went the distance on the mound. The right-hander struck out 10 batters while only giving up three hits and one earned run.
 
Offensively, the Vikings pounded out 11 hits compared to the Storm's three. John Brown (Lake City, Minn.) provided the spark at the lead-off spot in the lineup. The junior ended with three hits, two runs scored while recording a stolen base and an RBI. Senior Jordan Grams (Mankato, Minn.) had two singles and an RBI as well.
 
UP NEXT:
The Vikings (1-5) will return to the diamond on Friday morning with a doubleheader against Newbury College. The first pitch of the DH will happen at 9 a.m. (MST) at the Kino Sports Complex.
