ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran baseball team earned an important split with the University of Northwestern in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play at Reynolds Field on Thursday night.
The Vikings move to 13-14 overall and 5-3 in conference action while the Eagles are now 14-16 overall on the year and 4-2 in the UMAC standings.
GAME ONE:
Senior right-handed pitcher
Brandyn Olsen threw his sixth complete-game of the season, while fanning 10 batters in the game one win over Northwestern. Olsen had his no-hit bid broke up in the bottom of the seventh inning. The righty now posts a 6-0 record and 2.08 Earned Run Average on the 2017 campaign. Olsen helped his own cause in the top of the eighth inning, smacking a solo home run over the fence in left center field to record his third long ball of the season.
Trent Saharek tallied three hits (two doubles) and one RBI while
John Brown added two hits, one run scored, and an RBI for the Vikings in game one.
GAME TWO:
BLC held a 3-1 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning. In the bottom half, the UNW offense exploded with six runs to give the Eagles the 7-3 advantage. The Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to salvage the split with the visiting Vikings.
Kevin Harris and Brandyn Olsen each had two hits to lead the offense in game two of the DH.
Walker Linde and Trent Saharek combined for two hits and four RBI's as the 4-5 hitters in the lineup.
UP NEXT:
Bethany Lutheran will next play on Saturday in Morris, Minnesota against the Cougars. The conference doubleheader will begin at 1:30 p.m.
