Pipenhagen Leads Vikings to Conference Sweep

MANKATO, Minn. – For the first time in 2017, the Bethany Lutheran softball team played in front of their home crowd at the BLC Softball Field. The Vikings swept an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader against Martin Luther College on Wednesday afternoon.

GAME ONE:
Earning her seventh victory inside the circle this season, Anna Pipenhagen (Elk River, Minn.) threw a complete game shutout, striking out 10 batters. Offensively, the Vikings pounded out 14 hits compared to the Knights five. Christina Wickingson (Mason, Wis.) and Cindy Pawlitschek (St. Paul, Minn.) each had three hits, one RBI, and one run scored for BLC. Katelyn Karels (Good Thunder, Minn.) hit her second home run of the 2017 season in the bottom of the second inning. Pipenhagen contributed with two hits and one RBI.
 
GAME TWO:
The Vikings and Knights combined for seven total hits in the pitchers dual of game two. Wickingson, Samantha Meginbir (Lloydminster, AB), and Paige Johnson (Chaska, Minn.) provided the offensive highlights for BLC. Inside the circle, Pipenhagen was in control throughout to earn her second win of the day. The junior pitched seven scoreless, giving up just four hits while striking out six Knights.
 
UP NEXT:
The Vikings will continue their home stand on Saturday, April 8th with a conference doubleheader with St. Scholastica. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the BLC Softball Field.
