Northfield, Minn. – The Vikings volleyball squad began their 2017 season at the St. Olaf/Carleton Invitational on Friday afternoon. The invitational consists of two days of play with the Vikings squaring off against Macalester and UW-River Falls on day one and St. Olaf and North Central on day two.
The Vikings dropped the first contest to Macalester by a score of 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-17). BLC had a quartet of attackers tally more than seven kills on the contest with Haley Domonoske leading the way with 10. Megan Rutt and Alannah Menk finished with eight apiece while Rachel Sorensen had seven. Anna Nelson had 21 digs for Bethany and Jasmine Carlson had 34 set assists. Domonoske also had three blocks to lead the team with Rutt and Carlson behind her with two each.
The Vikings lost match two against UW-River Falls by a score of 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-15). BLC was led by Natasha Young who recorded six kills. Rutt was behind her with four and Menk followed her with four. Carlson once again led Bethany in set assists with 11 and Nelson led the dig category again with 22.
Up next: The Vikings continue their play in Northfield, Minn. tomorrow beginning at 9 AM when they take on host team St. Olaf followed by play against North Central at 3 PM.
