HANCOCK, MI. – The Bethany women's soccer team (1-7) beat Finlandia (0-6-1) by a score of 2-1 to pick up their first win of the season.
The Vikings controlled the ball on offense for the entire game, accumulating a season-high 32 shots total with 12 of those on goal. The Vikings defense limited the Lions to five shots with two on goal. Bethany also held the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1.
Sophomore midfielder Elena De Vera gave the Vikings the early lead with a goal in the 22nd minute. The goal was assisted by senior forward Nicole Moldstad. The first half ended with the Vikings ahead 1-0.
Bethany added a second goal early in the second half from freshman forward Madison Perry. The goal is the first of Perry's collegiate career. Finlandia scored a goal in the 63rd minute of the game, but the Vikings held on for the win.
