MANKATO, Minn. – The Bethany women's soccer team (2-7, 1-3) beat the University of Minnesota-Morris (3-5-1, 1-2-1) with a final score of 1-0. The two teams battled to a tie for 89 minutes and with 29 seconds left on the clock Nicole Moldstad put a shot into the back of the net for the Vikings.
The first half was an even game with both teams controlling possession of the ball for the same amount of time. The Vikings and Cougars had their opportunities in the first half, but it was the defense for both teams that made it difficult to gain an offensive advantage. The first half ended in a 0-0 tie.
The momentum shifted in favor of the Vikings in the second half as they were the team with more shot opportunities. The Cougars had a few attempts of their own, but the two teams seemed to be headed to overtime with less than a minute remaining and a 0-0 score.
The Vikings had one last opportunity to break the tie and it was Nicole Moldstad who took advantage of a free kick and scored a goal with 29 seconds left. Her shot found the back of the net and the game ended with the Vikings winning, 1-0.
