MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – With four matches now remaining in conference play, the Vikings sit in 6th place in the UMAC standings which is currently one spot out of the playoff the picture. The Vikings are in a great spot to make a playoff push as they have three straight matches, including today, against conference opponents they have already beaten this year.
The Vikings took a step in the right direction tonight with a sound win over the Rams 3-1 (25-13, 19-25, 25-15, 25-12). The Vikings used a few different runs in the first set to capture the early momentum. The Rams used a short burst in the middle of the second set to even the match, but the Vikings rebounded by winning the third and fourth set handily to earn the victory.
UMAC offensive player of the week
Megan Rutt was a force with a match-high 20 kills (5 kills/set).
Kalli Mathiasen bolstered the offensive attack with a match-high 33 assists, her second highest total this season. Despite losing a set, the Vikings dominated the match, outscoring the Rams 56 to 37 with 45 kills compared to 28.
Up Next: The Vikings travel to Ashland, WI to play Northland College on Saturday, October 13th at 3 PM. The Vikings defeated Northland earlier this year 3-0.
