ASHLAND, Wis. – It was a clean sweep this weekend as men's soccer, women's soccer, and volleyball all defeated Northland College. The men's soccer team beat the Lumberjacks by score of 3-1. Today's win was an important one for the Vikings as they look to secure their spot in the UMAC postseason tournament.
The Vikings fell behind early as Northland took a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute of the game. Bethany was unable to answer until 30 minutes later when
Samuel Duran capitalized on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.
Diego Meza-Palmer scored his second goal of the season and was assisted by
Nikita Pyatetskiy in the 73rd minute to give the Vikings a 2-1 lead.
Nikita Pyatetskiy then got in on the scoring action himself when he sealed a win with a goal in the 80th minute. Pyatetskiy was all over Northland's goalie, peppering him with six total shots and three on goal.
Bethany totaled 18 shots and seven on goal compared to nine shots and four on goal for Northland.
Moritz Bruns was back in net for the Vikings after missing time due to injury. He made three saves and allowed one goal to earn the win.
The Vikings are now in a tie for 4th place in the UMAC standings with Crown College. Bethany has a 3-3-3 record for a total of 12 points while Crown holds a 4-5 record for 12 points.
Up Next: The next game is a big one. The Vikings are looking for some separation in the UMAC standings as they host Crown College on Tuesday, October 16th at 5:00 PM. In their first meeting of the season, Bethany beat Crown by a score of 2-1 in OT.
