ASHLAND, Wis. – Bethany Lutheran is making a push to secure their spot in the UMAC postseason tournament. The Vikings entered today's game in a tie for 5th place in the standings, hoping for an upset win over 4th place Northland College. It was a defensive battle today, but the Vikings pulled off the upset with a 1-0 win.
Kenya Henderson scored her first goal since the Vikings played Nebraska Christian in their second game of the season. Henderson recorded just one shot attempt in today's game, but it was a big one. Bethany tallied seven shots in the game with five on goal compared to 11 shots and four on goal for Northland.
Madison Perry pestered Northland's keeper with four shots and three on goal.
Zoe Kinakin played in goal for the Vikings, making four saves to earn the shutout the win.
The Vikings now have 12 points in the UMAC standings which currently puts them in a three-way tie for 4th place with Northland and UW-Superior. The Vikings will need to play well down the stretch as they have just three games remaining in their conference schedule while UW-Superior has four and Northland has five. Every win gives a team three points, a tie counts for one point, and a loss is zero.
Head-to-head, the Vikings split with UW-Superior in their two contests this season and have now beaten Northland in what will be their only meeting.
Up Next: The Vikings host Crown College on Tuesday, October 16th at 7:30 PM. In their first meeting of the season, Crown beat Bethany by a score of 3-2. Currently, Crown sits at the bottom of the standings in the UMAC with a 2-7 record. The Vikings are now 4-5 in UMAC play.
