St. Paul, MN. – The Viking's volleyball team fell to the University of Northwestern Eagles 0-3 (21-25, 24-26, 11-25). The loss marks the second in a row for the Vikings, and moves their record to 6-13 and 4-6 in the UMAC conference.
The Vikings started the first set out well, keeping even with the Eagles and working to erase the Eagles lead and tie them 14-14. However, shortly after the Vikings found themselves down 15-20, and soon lost the first set by four. The Vikings took it to the Eagles again in the second set; although they eventually fell 24-26. The Vikings had 29 kills to the Eagles 48 and 26 assists to the Eagles 45.
Megan Rutt led the Vikings in kills with 10.
Kalli Mathiasen also recorded the vast majority of assists, with her getting 24 of the 26.
Mindy Poehler had a great defensive showing with 3 blocks over the match.
Up next: The Vikings will face the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets as part of the Fall Festival festivities on Saturday, October 6th at 2:00 P.M. and then play a second match against St. Olaf at 6 P.M.
