NEW ULM, MN – The BLC women's soccer team boosted their UMAC record to 6-5 tonight with a win over the MLC Knights by a score of 2-1. The Vikings have now extended their winning streak to five games at this critical time of the season. BLC remains tied for 4th place in the UMAC standings, hoping to make the postseason tournament.
The game was played evenly between the two teams. Bethany recorded 16 total shots with seven on goal while Martin Luther recorded 13 shots with eight on goal. BLC held a significant advantage in corner kicks with eight compared to just one for MLC.
Bailey Bakken scored her 13th goal of the season in the 14th minute of the game. She was assisted by
Madison Perry who now has 10 assists on the season. Bakken is third in the UMAC in goals scored and Perry is tied for first in assists.
MLC didn't wait long to respond with a goal in the 19th minute by Emily Witkowski. The two teams went back and forth the remainder of the first half with the first period ending 1-1.
Back and forth the Vikings and Knights continued with neither team able to gain an advantage on the scoreboard.
Zoe Kinakin played a terrific game in net for the Vikings, making seven saves. The tie was finally broken in the 85th minute of play when
Bridget Brown scored on a penalty kick, giving the Vikings a 2-1 win.
Up Next: The Vikings have one last game remaining before postseason play. They host the College of St. Scholastica on Saturday, October 27th at 3:30 PM. The Saints are 10-0-1 in UMAC play. The Vikings are tied with MN-Morris in 4th place with 18 points. UW-Superior is close behind with 16 points. MN-Morris and UW-Superior will play each other this coming Saturday in the final game of the regular season.
