Box Score 2 DUNDAS, Minn. - The Bethany softball team opened it's 2018 season with a doubleheader on Friday against the Macalester Scots. The Vikings downed the Scots 9-3 in the first contest before their comeback effort came up short in the second contest, which they dropped by a tally of 7-5.
In game one the Vikings fell behind 3-0 in the top of the first and didn't strike until the third inning when
Anna Pipenhagen hit a three-run homerun to tie the game. Pipenhagen was on the mound for the Vikings as well and after allowing three hits and three runs in the first inning she went the final six innings allowing just four hits while striking out five batters and allowing zero runs. Pipenhagen finished game one at the plate going two for three with four RBI's and a walk, while freshman
Kaylee Mork started her college career with two hits, a pair of runs scored, and an RBI. In game one the Vikings recorded an impressive nine hits to go along with eight walks.
In game two the Vikings scored in the top of the first when Mork reached on a single and later scored on a Pipenhagen fielder's choice. The Vikings then hit a cold spell and the Macalester bats got hot as the Scots scored seven unanswered runs to take a 7-1 lead after five innings. The Vikings fought back into the game scoring two runs in both the top of the sixth and seventh innings before the Scots maneuvered out of a bases loaded jam to secure the victory. Mork once again impressed in game two as she recorded two hits while Pipenhagen reached base three times with a hit and two walks.
Up Next: The Vikings will continue play tomorrow with two games against St. Olaf at 3 P.M. and 5 P.M.
