Box Score 2 TUCSON, AZ. – The Bethany softball team began their spring trip with two games on Monday. The BLC Vikings lost to the College of St. Benedict's 6-4 and then beat Rockford University 18-5 in five innings.
In game one, the Vikings played tough against the St. Ben's Blazers who are ranked eighth in the Midwest region.
Taylor Kottke led off with a single in the second inning and maneuvered her way around the bases for the first score of the game. St. Ben's then scored six unanswered runs before the Vikings added three more of their own in the seventh, but the Blazers would hold on to win 6-4.
Anna Pipenhagen pitched 5.2 innings, giving up six hits and six runs with seven strikeouts.
Taylor Kottke recorded two hits and scored two runs for the Vikings.
Eden Ambrose also had two hits for the Vikings and Sydney Kappel had two RBIs.
In game two, the Vikings took care of business and handled Rockford University, winning 18-5 in five innings. Offensively, the Vikings were unstoppable.
Sarah Presler and
Julia Pfeiffer each had three hits to lead the charge.
Morgan Mashlan was 2 for 4 with a triple,
Kaylee Mork was 2 for 2 with a double,
Taylor Kottke was 2 for 4 with a double,
Eden Ambrose was 2 for 2, and
Isabella Lattery was 2 for 3 with a double.
Anna Pipenhagen threw one inning for the Vikings and was credited with the win.
Eden Ambrose threw three innings and
Sydney Kappel finished the game with one inning.
Up Next: The Vikings play Moravian College on Tuesday at 11:00 MST and then follow with a game against Hiram College at 1:30 PM MST.
