Box Score 2 TUCSON, AZ. – The Bethany softball team earned another split on day two of their trip in Arizona. The Bethany Vikings (3-5) lost game one to Moravian College (5-3) by a score of 10-2 and then came back with a win over Hiram College (1-2) with a score of 4-2.
The Greyhounds grabbed an early lead and made it difficult for the Vikings to catch up. Bethany scored their first run in the fifth and final inning with an RBI single from
Kendra Porath.
Anna Pipenhagen then drove in
Megan Westphal for run number two.
Kendra Porath had one hit and one RBI for the Vikings.
Taylor Kottke,
Eden Ambrose, and
Rachel Kurtenbach also tallied one hit each. The Vikings finished with four hits total and committed five errors.
BLC bounced back quickly in game two. The Vikings got to work right away, scoring in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI single from
Anna Pipenhagen. The Vikings added three more runs in the fourth inning which was enough to seal the game.
Sydney Kappel tripled, bringing home
Taylor Kottke.
Eden Ambrose recorded an RBI single and then scored the final run of the game.
Anna Pipenhagen got the win for the Vikings. She pitched seven innings, giving up 12 hits and two runs while striking out 11. The Viking defense was stellar, keeping Hiram to only two runs on their 12 hits while committing no errors.
Up Next: The Vikings get the day off tomorrow and come back to play again on Thursday against Wittenberg and St. John Fisher at 3:30 PM MST and 6:00 PM MST respectively.
