ROSEVILLE, Minn. – The Vikings picked up two more UMAC wins on Sunday evening, defeating the MN-Morris Cougars 14-2 and 12-2. The Vikings are now 5-1 in UMAC play and have won five straight.
In game one, the Vikings scored 12 runs from the fourth to the sixth inning to put away the Cougars and take home the victory. Bethany pounded out 13 hits in the contest including seven for extra bases. Leading the charge offensively was Grant Becher who went three for three with a triple, a double, two RBI's, and three runs scored. Nick Caldeen, Kevin Harris, Diego Martiarena, and Ben Boran all recorded two hits for the Vikings with Caldeen hitting a two run home run as well. A big turning point in the game came off the bat of Walker Linde who hit a three run home run in the fourth inning to extend the Vikings one run lead to four and give starting pitcher Anthony Radloff some breathing room. Radloff threw six and a third inning and gave up just one earned run while striking out three.
In game two, the Vikings finished in grand fashion, exploding for 10 runs in the seventh inning. The outburst was capped off with a walk-off grand slam from Ross Beumer. The Vikings recorded four hits in the inning including a single from Beumer. The Cougars committed three errors in the seventh inning to aid the Vikings. In the game, Diego Martiarena was three for four with two RBIs. Ben Boran was two for four with three RBIs and one run. Nick Dewanz put in five innings of work for the Vikings, giving up four hits and one run with three strikeouts. Hunter Hamers pitched 1.1 innings, but it was Alex Babcock who was credited with the win for 0.2 innings of work allowing no hits and no runs with one strikeout.
UP NEXT: The Vikings travel to New Ulm, Minn. on Wednesday, April 25 for a double-header with MLC at 1:30 and 3:30 PM.
