NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran College Volleyball team split their season opening matches. They won their first match against Crown College 3-2 (25-20, 21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-7) and then they lost their second match against the Hamline Pipers 3-0 (12-25, 15-25, 19-25). The two matches set the Vikings record at 1-1.
First, the Vikings went up against Crown College in a close matchup, but the Vikings ended up coming out on top. The Vikings started out the first set down by 7, but rallied back to win behind a 8-6 kill advantage. The Vikings and Crown College ended up splitting the first four sets, and in the fifth, the Vikings won with a 7-4 kill advantage. In the end, the Vikings had 49 kills to Crown's 32 and 167 total attacks to Crown's 133.
During the second match, the Vikings got down 10-3 in the first set and were never able to bounce back. They ended up losing 3-0 and had only 13 kills to the Pipers 29.
Up next: The Vikings have another double header on Saturday, September 1st; first against St. Olaf at 11 A.M. and then against Macalester College at 5 P.M.
