NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Vikings volleyball team split their second day matches, moving their overall record to 2-2.
First, the Vikings faced the undefeated St. Olaf College in a match where the Vikings lost 3-0 (12-25, 14-25, and 16-25). The Vikings fought hard through the first set, but an unfortunate 3-16 run found them down 10-23. In the end, the Vikings found themselves having only 22 kills to St. Olaf's 44. The Vikings were led by
Megan Rutt who had 9 kills,
Kalli Mathiasen with 11 assists, and
Veeva Lee who tallied 10 digs.
The next match found the Vikings going up against Macalester College, in which the Vikings won 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-11, and 25-21). The Vikings were able to outpace Macalester in almost every category, racking up 42 kills to Macalester's 30, 53 to 48 digs, and 123 total attacks to 115. The Vikings stat leaders were
Megan Rutt with 15 kills and multiple Vikings had 3 or more blocks:
Taylar Jencks (3),
Bethany Karnopp (4),
Mindy Poehler (4), and
Haley Domonoske (5).
Up next: The Vikings will travel to Iowa for four matches next weekend. Up first, they will be facing the Coe College Kohawks (2-2) in Grinnell, IA at 4 PM on Friday, September 7th.
