Vikings fall to Knights in home-opener

MANKATO, Minn. – The BLC Vikings took the field against the MLC Knights with temperatures in the 90s on Saturday. The heat didn't stop fans from coming to watch some good UMAC soccer. The Vikings controlled much of the game, but they lost by a score of 3-1.

Madison Perry and Bailey Bakken tested the MLC goalkeeper early with a couple shots each. Bakken had a tremendous run early when she took the ball from midfield down the sideline, crossed over to the middle, and put a shot off the right post. Perry finished with six shots total and three on goal while Bakken amassed 14 attempts with seven on goal.

At the 12-minute mark, the Knights scored from 15 yards inside midfield on a ball that soared high into the air and dropped over the head of Vikings goalkeeper Zoe Kinakin. At the half, the Knights held a 2-0 advantage.

The Vikings kept the pressure on in the second half, but they were unable to close the gap. MLC was out in front 3-0 when Madison Perry finally got a shot past the Knights' goalkeeper in the 83rd minute for her third goal of the season. In the end, the Knights spoiled the home-opener for the Vikings, winning by a score of 3-1.

BLC amassed 26 total shots with 13 on goal compared to 10 total shots and seven on goal for the Knights. The Vikings also had seven corner kicks to three for MLC.
