Minneapolis, Minn. – The Bethany Lutheran College Viking's volleyball team moves to 3-8 as they lost to the University of Wisconsin Superior 0-3 (7-25, 20-25, 13-25) and defeated the North Central University Rams 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-14).
The Yellowjackets were able to hold the Vikings to just 7 points in their first set. They racked up 10 kills to the Vikings 5 and started the set on a 7-0 run. After the third set, the Yellowjackets had 31 kills to the Vikings 29, 10 aces to the Vikings 2, and 5 blocks to the Vikings 2. The Vikings were led by
Megan Rutt with 9 kills and
Brittany Sanders with 12 assists.
However, the Vikings were able to bounce back in the second match. The Viking's stayed fairly consistent throughout the match; getting 12 kills in the first set, 13 kills in the second set, and 12 kills in the third set. In every set, they were able to outplay the Ram's who recorded 9 kills in the first set, 5 kills in the second set, and just 4 kills in the third set. Overall, the Vikings scored 48 points to the Rams 31, 37 kills to the Rams 18, and 9 aces to the Rams 5.
Megan Rutt led the Vikings with 12 kills and 27 total attacks, and
Kalli Mathiasen contributed 19 assists to what was a fantastic effort by the entire team.
Up next: The Viking's host their first two home games on Tuesday, September 18th. The first match will be at 3:00 P.M. against the Martin Luther College Knights and the second one will be at 7:00 P.M. against the University of Minnesota Morris Cougars.
